Ilisher Dim Bhaja / Fried hilsha fish roe


Ilish as you all know is the most loved fish among the Bengalis. It’s roe is another delicious iteam. It need little cooking but taste awesome. Fried hilsha roe is the most common and loved recipe. I add onion and potatoes to it which make this dish more vibrant. Fried hilsha fish roe is served as a starter in a regular Bengali lunch. I am sure you all will love this way of cooking.


Preparation time : 10 minutes
Cooking time : 15 minutes
Serves : 4

Ingredients : 
2  hilsha egg with sac 
1 potato  cut in to thin strips
1 onion  sliced 
½  tsp turmeric powder
1 whole  red chilly break into halves 
4 to 5 tbsp mustard oil 
Salt to taste 


Methods Of Cooking: 
First wash the egg with sac gently in water, handle the egg sac with care, make sure it doesn’t get ripped of . Now marinate with turmeric powder, salt. Heat up pan, add 2 tbsp mustard oil, release the egg sac one at a time gently and quickly lower the flame , fry the side for 5-6 mints at low, flip the side gently and fry at low for another 5 to 6 mints. Keep aside. Now again heat oil in a pan. Add whole red chilly and sliced onion fry till litle golden add strips of potatoes with salt and turmeric powder. Fry them till potatoes are soft and well fried and onion turn golden. Now add the fried fish roe. Mix with soft hand. Your ilisher dim bhaja is ready to relish. Serve and enjoy with hot steamed rice.
